"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer."
__Albert Camus (1942) The Stranger

"Why are you here?" That is the opening line of my novel Miss Alphie's Secret. It is a good question -- one that a lot professors might ask themselves. It is also a good question for students to ask themselves. "Why am I here?"

There are a lot of answers to that question, but perhaps the best is summed up in this saying: "If you want good answers, ask good questions. If you want great answers, ask great questions." As much as anything, I'm here to try to ask great questions and to help students find the tools to answer those questions.

So, I invite you to share in my exploration. In these pages, you will find information about my dissertation topic, other work that I have in progress at this time, my teaching philosophy, information about my past community and university service, a little mild bragging about awards I have received, a copy of my CV for those of you who just can't help yourselves, a brief discussion of my credentials, some wisdom (mostly not my own), a little tribute to my most faithful friend Doctor Nicodemus, and a peek at my friends and what we do for fun.

Come on in! The water's fine! Kick your shoes off. Have a cold beverage of your choice. Drink responsibly. Just say no. Thank you for NOT shopping at Wal-Mart. All Aboard!!!!!

Warm smiles,

Dr. DJ
